Melissa Memorial Hospital is pleased to announce H. Rai Kakkar, M.D. will begin holding a neurology clinic starting Tuesday, Aug. 12.
Dr. Kakkar is a Board Certified Neurologist in private practice in the Lowry/Aurora, Parker and Lonetree areas. He completed a residency in psychiatry at Columbia University in New York City and is board certified in psychiatry in addition to neurology.
His main area of interest, however, is diseases of the nervous system for which he completed a residency in neurology at UCLA in Los Angeles. He has completed two fellowships, one in internal medicine at Montefiore Hospital in New York and one in gerontology at UCLA.
His past professional experience includes medical directorships of a Senior Neuropsychiatric Assessment Program and of a Memory Assessment Program. Dr. Kakkar has helped develop stroke protocols for several Front Range hospitals.
Kakkar maintains an adult neurology practice engaged in treating major neurological disorders including stroke, seizures, multiple sclerosis, neuromuscular disease and atypical headaches. He utilizes the latest tools in electroneurodiagnostic technology. He has a special interest in diseases of aging, such as dementia and Parkinson's disease.
Kakkar moved to Colorado in 1999. He is married with three children, one grown son, a 6-year-old daughter and a 4-year-old son. Both of his younger children were adopted from China. He has family in Venango, Neb. and looks forward to serving the citizens of the district as well as others in northeastern Colorado.
