Jes-c French joins Enterprise staff

A welcome addition to The Holyoke Enterprise staff this week is Jes-c French, who relocates from Granbury, Texas, to join the Johnson Publications Inc. team.
Having graduated from HHS in 2007, she returns to the community after four years of college in Massachusetts and almost six years of working in Texas.
While it’s been close to 10 years since she was a year-round resident, French is not entirely new to the local newspaper staff.
She served as a summer intern at the Enterprise for four summers between 2007-2010, at which time she handled various reporting responsibilities and projects.
Having proven herself as a competent writer, French is a great addition to the news staff, said publisher Brenda Brandt. Additionally, her knowledge of the Holyoke community will be extremely advantageous. French will be involved with other tasks at the paper, including sales of promotional items.
While the computer and software have changed, French returns to the same desk at which she interned 10 years ago. “She’s stepped right back into the pace with a steady stride,” said Brandt after French’s first day.
Returning to the area to be closer to family was the impetus for French and her husband Jimmy’s push to move to Holyoke. Brandt feels very fortunate that their timing coincided with an opening on the Enterprise staff.
French, the daughter of Jerry and Debbie Brandt of Holyoke, earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Amherst College in Massachusetts in 2011.
In June of that year, she accepted a position as a resident parent at North Central Texas Academy, a K-12 international Christian boarding school in Granbury. And she remained in that role until last week.
Jimmy French, originally from Brooklyn, New York, is also a 2011 graduate of Amherst College, earning his bachelor’s degree in math and computer science. He began working at NCTA in Granbury in January of 2012, and married Jes-c almost three years ago, in March of 2014.
The Frenches have moved to Holyoke, and he is currently looking at employment options in the area.
While in Texas, the Frenches served as volunteers for Habitat for Humanity, building houses in Granbury. Jes-c is also a Texas Master Gardener volunteer.
French was involved in the drama productions, music programs, academics and sports while a student at HHS. She said she hopes to become involved with the Phillips County Players.
She and her husband both look to volunteer with the local Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and plan to be active at First Christian Church in Holyoke.
At the Enterprise, French joins managing editor Darci Tomky, office manager Ashley Sullivan, reporter Karen Ortner and Brandt.
