Torrential rains which started in Holyoke about 7 p.m. Monday evening, June 1, had netted 3.5 inches of precipitation by 7 a.m. Tuesday, according to National Weather Service weather observer Dan Kafka from his home southwest of Holyoke. He said they had only minor flooding and pea-size hail. In town, one report of 3.12 inches was recorded. Towards Haxtun, reports as of 7 a.m. Tuesday ranged from 1-1.5 inches. Southwest of Holyoke, near Yuma County, in the Wages area, Carol Schmidt reported their rainfall total at 3.8 inches early Tuesday afternoon. “We haven’t seen this for a long time,” she added. The creeks are running, and water is running across some roads. Twelve miles south of Holyoke, Dale Haynes reported six inches of rain. Northeast towards the Amherst area reported in the neighborhood of 2-2.75 inches. Tuesday afternoon, rains still came in drizzling spurts, with more forecast for the evening. |
