20 teams compete at Ballyneal PDF Print E-mail

Twenty teams competed in the 2009 Ballyneal High School Invitational on HHS’s first day of school, Tuesday, Aug. 18.

Wyndham Clark was four under par for the day, turning in a 67 to win the tournament. Clark competes for Valor Christian, a 4A school in Highlands Ranch.

John Ahern of D’Evelyn and Clay Labrec of Mountain Range both carded 74’s to take second, and Sam Phillips of D’Evelyn shot a 75 for third place.

Valor Christian won the Tuesday tournament with a team score of 229, followed by Regis Jesuit 237 and Mountain Range 238.

Holyoke’s Team A turned in a 285, led by Keaton Arkulari’s 87, Duncan Brandt 96, Geoffrey Mattson 102 and Kyle Pierce 109.

Team B for HHS scored 307 with Coleton Spitz shooting a 101, Chris Bieber and Deyten Klein 103’s and Brian DeBoer 107.

Following the top three teams, other participants, listed in order of placing, were: Fairview, D’Evelyn, Colorado Academy, Yuma, Cherry Creek, Brush, Evergreen, Golden, Grandview, Holyoke A, Burlington, Greeley Central, Holyoke B, Fleming, Vail Mountain, Bennett and Sterling.

Coach Garrett Gordon said there was a lot of great golf played Tuesday, giving the participants a whole new golf experience.

Arkulari turned in the best score again in Yuma, Monday, Aug. 24 shooting an 81. Mattson carded an 86 with Brandt turning in a 91. The scores were good enough for a team score of 258 and seventh place. They were just five shots out of fourth place. Spitz rounded out scoring with a 92.

Holyoke also sent a JV team to participate in the JV tournament in Yuma. Led by Klein who took second place with an 87, the team won with a 284. Bieber carded a 98, Caleb Kafka, 99 and Brent Vasa, 101.

Holyoke will travel to Jefferson Academy, Aug. 27 and Thursday, Sept. 3 the Dragons travel to Westminster and play at Riverdale Dunes.
