HHS grad returns to student teach PDF Print E-mail

2006 Holyoke High School graduate Kurtis Huss returned to Holyoke for a semester of student teaching.

Huss is teaching 10th grade American History and said his class has already done some projects and seems to enjoy the change of pace from other classes.

“It’s going well,” he said. “I think the students are enjoying the mix up of things.”

Teaching a class in the 10th grade in Holyoke is interesting, Huss said. He knows many of the parents or grandparents of his students and went to school with many of their older siblings.

Huss expects to graduate in May 2010 after studying history with a concentration in social studies teaching from Colorado State University in Ft. Collins.

While in high school, Huss had teachers who made teaching interesting, sparking his interest in the subject. He said Roger Brady made American History really fun along with his other instructors.

Huss said Holyoke was his preference for a student teaching position, and it ended up working out.

After graduating from CSU, Huss sees himself searching out a high school/middle school teaching position in the Ft. Collins or Loveland area on the front range.

Huss is a volunteer coach for the Holyoke golf team and enjoys playing golf in his free time. He also enjoys reading and spending as much time outdoors as he can.
