HHS golfers competed in back-to-back tournaments last Thursday and Friday, Sept. 3-4, at Riverdale Dunes in the Mountain Range HS Invite and at Grandview Invitational at Spring Valley. Then, Tuesday, Sept. 8 they golfed in Fort Morgan.

At Riverdale on Sept. 3, the Dragons turned in a 277, with both Keaton Arkulari and Geoffrey Mattson shooting 89’s and Duncan Brandt carding a 99. Also on the team was Brian DeBoer, who shot a 105.

Mountain Range High School’s black team won the tournament, with a 216, followed by Fairview with 221. Leading golfers were Chris Shaw of Fort Collins and Sam Rock of Fairview, both with 70s; T.J. Lovato, Mountain Range, 71; Clay LaBrec, Mountain Range, 72; and Adam Clayton, Fairview, 72.

Friday at Spring Valley, Mountain Range and Mullen Gold both turned in team scores of 227, with Mountain Range winning the tie-breaker with their fourth player’s score.

Holyoke finished with a 274 with Arkulari’s 86, Brandt’s 90 and Mattson’s 98. Also golfing for Holyoke was Kyle Pierce, with a 102.

Gus Lundquist of Regis was low scorer with a 71, while Chris Dillon of Mullen Gold and J.J. Dischner of Mountain Range both turned in 74’s.

Results of Tuesday’s tournament in Fort Morgan will be reported in next week’s Enterprise.

Also this week, a junior varsity tournament is scheduled in Brush Friday, Sept. 11. Next week, varsity and jayvee competition is set for Sterling Monday, Sept. 14, and at the H-F golf course, hosted by Fleming Wednesday, Sept. 16.

The Northern 3A regional tournament will be held Tuesday, Sept. 22 at Highland Hills in Greeley, and state competition is set for Oct. 5-6 at Cougar Canyon Golf Course in Trinidad.
