Christmas lights add a radiant glow to the town this time of year.

Geese join the reindeer pulling Santa’s sleigh on the lawn next to Highway 6 on the east edge of Holyoke. With a Christmas message of “Peace on Earth” cutout, complete with a nativity scene, Jay Dean and Joyce Krueger’s display was a decorative winner in this year’s lighting contest in Holyoke. Sponsored by the City of Holyoke, Holyoke Chamber of Commerce and The Holyoke Enterprise, the annual contest creates enthusiasm for decorating and for viewing the many lighted scenes in town during the holiday season. While entries in this year’s contest were way down, many displays which weren’t nominated are worthy of a drive through town in the evening hours. Snowfall had just begun last Thursday when the lighting contest photos were being taken, and added much to the winter scenery. These geese in the Krueger yard have become a conversation piece for all who drive by. The Kruegers decorate the geese for the season or holiday at hand, or both, and attract considerable attention with their creativity. Their home is located at 1035 Frenchman Hts. One other decorative winner and three lighting winners are pictured inside this edition of the Enterprise. Prize winners each received $35. —Enterprise photo

Winners in the annual lighting contest sponsored by the City of Holyoke, Holyoke Chamber of Commerce and The Holyoke Enterprise each received $35.
Winners in the decorative contest were Jay Dean & Joyce Krueger and Sergio & Socorro Peña. Lighting division winners were Phil & Terri Biersdorfer, Tom & Julie Andersen and Ron & Claudia Koberstein.
Many more beautiful lighting displays can be seen throughout town. A leisurely drive through town is a worthwhile trip this time of year.
