Phillips County Family Education Services, Inc. announced recently that it received a $10,000 Daniels Fund grant to support its Family Literacy Program.

PCFES began as a library literacy program in 1992. In the past 17 years, PCFES has grown to provide adult English as a second language instruction, adult basic education/GED preparation, early childhood education and family literacy instruction.

Each year, PCFES serves approximately 45 adults in need of English language acquisition, 15 adult basic education/GED students and 20 children ages 6 months to 5 years and their parents.

“This grant will enable our program to provide high quality, interactive parent and child together learning sessions and also parenting lessons for the adults,” Executive Director, Kindra Plumb said.

The Daniels Fund operates the Daniels Fund Scholarship Program and the Daniels Fund Grants Program in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming. The fund was established in 1997 by Bill Daniels, a pioneer in cable television known for his kindness and generosity to those in need.

“Receipt of the Daniels Fund grant allows us the opportunity to purchase the supplies and equipment that is needed to effectively serve those in need,” Plumb said.
