Sweeping the competition the week before Christmas break, Holyoke Dragon jayvee basketball team took three victories over Akron, Haxtun and Sedgwick County.
Playing at home on Tuesday, Dec. 16, Holyoke cleaned Akron’s clock with a score of 50-23. The next two wins came at Haxtun, who HHS beat 36-27, and at Ovid, 35-22.
Following a shaky first week of the season, the three conquests helped the jayvee team’s record, bringing it to 4-2.

The Dragons took control of the scoreboard early on in the game against Akron, clearly dominating the entire night. Akron struggled getting to the basket, as the team’s quarter scores clearly indicate.
Brian DeBoer and Reid Baumgartner were the stars of the night, adding 17 and 12 points respectively. All of Baumgartner’s 12 points were made from behind the arc.
Others scoring against Akron were Preston King with eight points, Brent Vasa six, Willie Greenman three and Alex Quintana and Cody Fricke with two each.

Cody Fix of Haxtun appeared unstoppable as he put up eight of the team’s points.
Rallying together in the second quarter, HHS made their comeback, scoring 16 points and holding Haxtun to only four.
It was a low-scoring second half of play for both teams, but Holyoke held onto the lead and never let go. They defeated the Bulldogs by nine points.
Baumgartner led the team in points on Friday with 15—12 of which were made from three-point range. DeBoer also scored double digits with 10. Greenman had five points, King four and Fricke two.
