Former Holyoke residents Gordan Miller (of Greeley), pictured in center, and Bill Harmon (of Garden City, Kan.), at right, feel honored to have been contacted by Steaks for Troops to show support for the U.S. troops.
An organization called Steaks for Troops asked Harmon and Miller to prepare and cook steaks on their huge barbecue grill to feed 1,500 U.S. troops who were coming home and deploying to Iraq and Afghanistan.
Miller and Harmon traveled to Ft. Bliss Military Base in El Paso, Texas, where they cooked 900 steaks, 400 hot dogs and 40 pounds of hamburgers. The next weekend they went to Ft. Carson Military Base in Colorado Springs and cooked for 1,000.
