As the reigning Phillips County Fair Queen, Sarah Heermann recently participated in the National Western Stock Show Parade Tuesday, Jan. 12 in Denver.

“I really enjoyed promoting Phillips County at the National Western Stock Show,” said Heermann. “I was surprised how many people asked me where Phillips County is.”

Duties for Heermann and Julia Cucarola, Miss Rodeo Logan County, included greeting National Western Stock Show dignitaries at the Oxford Hotel before the parade.

The girls also had the opportunity to meet the parade’s grand marshall, Todd Helton, five-time all-star Colorado Rockies first baseman.

Other parade royalty included Miss Rodeo America Kelli Jackson, Miss Rodeo Colorado Kasie Pigg, Miss Rodeo North Dakota Tiffany Kuntz, Miss Colorado High School Rodeo Kelsie Winslow and representatives from Logan, Washington, Larimer, Weld, Boulder and Douglas counties and Evergreen.

Meandering down 17th Street in Denver, the parade is an annual Stock Show tradition that kicks off the yearly Stock Show celebrations.

In addition to promoting Phillips County at the Stock Show, Heermann also promotes the county’s fair queen program locally. She wants to encourage girls to compete for fair queen this June at Dandelion Daze.

Those interested in the Phillips County Fair Queen program can contact Heermann at 854-3854 or the Phillips County Fair Queen coordinator Tiffany Weber at 854-4131.

Heermann is the daughter of Eldon and Christine Heermann of Holyoke, and is a junior at HHS.
