“Bank on Books” was the theme for the 2010 Friends of the Library annual salad luncheon.
Nearly 25 people attended the luncheon held at the Phillips County Museum Monday, Feb. 1.
The nominating committee announced new officers. Linda Jelden will serve as president, Dorothy Sisneros vice-president, Karen Crocker secretary and Hilda Hassler treasurer.
Outgoing president Janice Hibbard recognized Crocker as Volunteer of the Year for the second year, citing her dedication and help with the book bonanza.
Justine Likens and Peggy Bennett were recognized for their time spent sorting through books and help at the library.
Jelden acknowledged Hibbard and librarian Laura Roth for their time and dedication to the library.
Roth mentioned how fortunate Holyoke is to have such a beautiful library. She mentioned many other libraries are closing around the country.
After lunch, First Pioneer National Bank president Tom Bennett presented information on identity theft, credit reports and credit scores. He said with the shape of today’s economy, multiple scams are surfacing where people are trying to steal identities. “Protect who you are,” Bennett said.
