Dragon wrestlers host Burlington PDF Print E-mail

Five out of 10 Dragon wrestlers earned victories on the mat Thursday, Feb. 4 when Burlington came to town for a wrestling dual.

But the Cougars ended up with a 54-21 win. The visitors earned four match wins by forfeit, as HHS didn’t have competitors at 112 lbs., 160 lbs., 215 and heavyweight.

While the two teams each won five matches, the Cougars earned all of theirs by pins, and the Dragons had one pin, one tech fall and three decisions.

“We weren’t getting pins,” said coach Duane Stroh, adding they will work this week on how to tighten up the pins.

Stroh acknowledged Burlington is a tough team, and Holyoke is not used to duals, as most of the Dragon season is comprised of tournaments.

Individual results from last week’s home dual follow:

103 lbs.—Frank Diaz was pinned in 1:00 by Miguel Torres, who is ranked second in state.

112 lbs.—Burlington’s Andrew Murphy won by forfeit.

119 lbs.—Mark Edmonds pinned Zach Kinder in 5:40.

125 lbs.—Francisco Diaz was pinned in 3:41 by Bon Kinder, who is ranked first in state.

130 lbs.—Skyler Dittmer came from behind to win a 15-12 decision over Colin Eberhart.

135 lbs.—Chad Stroh tech-falled Zach Hornung 17-1.

140 lbs.—Brian Strong was pinned in 3:30 by state-ranked wrestler Trenton Rico.

145 lbs.—Ben Martinez was pinned in :45 by state-ranked Shane Whitmore.

152 lbs.—Cade Garrison won a 5-4 decision over Austin Blasi.

160 lbs.—Burlington’s Cord Carlin won by forfeit.

171 lbs.—Luke Garrett came from behind to win an 18-12 decision over Cole Briegel.

189 lbs.—Casey Sage was pinned in 4:38 by Alex Long.
