HHS track team competes at Yuma in season opener PDF Print E-mail
Written by Darci Tomky
2010 spring season kicked off for the HHS track team when they traveled to Yuma Tuesday, March 23 for their first meet this year.

Coach Sandra Rahe was pleased with the results of the meet, noting Holyoke was few in numbers because a good portion of the team elected not to participate in this meet due to the quick switch from basketball season. Nevertheless, she said they had many surprise performances from first-time tracksters at the cold, windy meet.

HHS coaches are excited with the number of students on the team this year with 21 girls and 13 boys. “With our team growing, we are growing in talent, which means more opportunities for athletes to make it to the state meet,” said Rahe.

Notably, with a larger boys’ team, Holyoke has organized boys’ relays this year. First-place honors at the Yuma meet went to the boys’ 4x800 meter relay comprised of Cody Fricke, Willie Greenman, Alex Quintana and Jeremy Loutensock.

Others earning first place included Marci Vasa in triple jump, Loutensock in the 1600 meter run and Quintana in the 300 meter hurdles.

Finishing with 60 points, the HHS girls earned fourth place on Tuesday. Team scores in order of ranking included Akron with 200 points, Merino 98.5, Yuma 91, Holyoke 60, Sedgwick County 57, Caliche 46.5, Otis 41, Haxtun 35, Fleming 30, Peetz Plateau 21, Hi-Plains 16 and Idalia 13.

The boys’ team earned sixth place with 54 points. Other team scores in order of placing are Sedgwick County 115, Merino 110.5, Hi-Plains 91, Yuma 81.5, Otis 58, Holyoke 54, Akron 32.5, Idalia 32, Fleming 26, Haxtun 25.5, Peetz Plateau 14 and Caliche 8.
