High winds turn into first major rain of 2010 PDF Print E-mail
Written by Holyoke Enterprise

Corn stalks found a new home in the fence south of the elementary school playground after 50-60 m.p.h. winds blew for most of the day Tuesday, April 13. The wind died down and 3/4 inches of rain fell with some hail. Streets were overwhelmed with water for a short period of time, and vehicles were forced to splash their way through the streets in Holyoke. National Weather Service official weather observer Dan Kafka said a wind gust was recorded at 58 m.p.h. Tuesday. The wind also tore down part of the landfill recycling building that was completed just over a year ago.
