Kyle Carper is state-bound in the long jump after earning a qualifying distance of 21’7” at the league track meet in Wray Saturday, May 8.

Many HHS tracksters claimed top placings at league as well as at the Yuma meet Tuesday, May 4, and the girls’ team came home with second-place honors from both meets.

Coach Sandra Rahe noted the Holyoke track team is doing great. “We seem to be peaking at the right time, and I look forward to them doing their best at regionals this Saturday,” she said.

In addition to those who have pre-qualified for state, the top three placers in each event at regionals will advance to the state track meet.

“We need to work our field events a little more this week to refine our technique, but they are doing better,” added Rahe.

HHS senior Marissa Smith continues to run strong. The sprinter earned first place in the 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes at both meets last week. She also ran on the 4x400 meter relay with Mallory Bennett, Shelby Beavers and Heather Duester which got first at the Yuma meet.

Another athlete to watch is Jeremy Loutensock who is very consistent and running well, noted Rahe. The long-distance runner got two first places in the 1600 meter run last week as well as top honors in the 800 meter run on Saturday.
