|HHS golf season sees a quick start|

Holyoke boys’ golf team began their season last week with practice on Monday, Aug. 9. Three days later they were in Brush to kick off tournament play.
Head coach Garrett Gordon reported eight players turned out for the first day of practice. They include Wyatt Bishop, Deyten Klein, Chris Bieber, Coleton Spitz, Caleb Kafka, Brian DeBoer, Keaton Arkulari of Wray and Kent Hiller of Haxtun. Pat Vasa serves as the volunteer assistant coach.
Other tournaments scheduled before the first day of school were, Friday, Aug. 13 at Burlington; Monday, Aug. 16 at Yuma; and Tuesday, Aug. 17 at at Ballyneal.
The team is scheduled to travel to Eaton Thursday, Aug. 19.
Coach Gordon said he was looking to get in a good number of tournaments before school started to cut back on the days missed.
HHS finished in third place behind Brush and Yuma with a team score of 245 at the Brush tournament Aug. 12. Arkulari led the way with a 78 for fourth place overall. Hiller and Klein carded 81 and 86 respectively.
The following day, HHS found themselves in fourth place at the Burlington tournament. Arkulari again led with a 76, good for third place, followed by Hiller and Spitz with 82 and 83 respectively. Klein carded an 89.
The Dragons again came in third place Monday, Aug. 16 in Yuma with a team score of 244. Yuma took top honors followed by Brush.
Holyoke was led by Spitz who carded a 76 good enough for second place overall. Arkulari shot an 85 followed by Hiller 83 and Klein 93.
Other tournament dates on the calendar are: Thursday, Aug. 26 varsity at Jefferson Academy, JV at Ft. Morgan; Friday, Sept. 10 at Windsor; Tuesday, Sept. 14 at Ft. Morgan.
Regionals will be held by Friday, Sept. 24 with state following on Oct. 4-5 in Eaton.
