Results of the Colorado American College Test (ACT) taken by HHS juniors last spring show the Class of 2011 composite score at 18.4, compared to the state average of 19.4.
The ACT is administered to all 11th grade students. There are four sub-tests including English, math, reading and science. In addition, a composite score is based on the results of the four sub-tests.
Holyoke’s Class of 2011 scored the same as the state average on the math test, and ranked lower in all other areas of testing.
HHS students scored 16.8 in English, compared to the state’s average of 18.6; HHS and state 19.3 in math; HHS 18.2 in reading, state average 19.6; HHS 18.6 in science, compared to 19.4 state average.
As juniors the HHS Class of 2007 averaged 20.3 on the ACT test, compared to the state average of 19.0. The Class of 2008 was right at the state average of 19.1, and the Class of 2009 averaged 19.1, below the state average of 19.4.
A year ago, the HHS Class of 2010 averaged 20.4, scoring higher than the state average of 19.6. This year the state average of 19.4 is a full point higher than the HHS composite score of 18.4.
Holyoke had 51 testing students in the Class of 2011 and 30 in the Class of 2010.
