Sarah Heermann, a senior at Holyoke High School, fared well in horse competition at the Colorado State Fair Aug. 27-29 in Pueblo.
Her efforts found her winning reserve champion in western division, third in gymkhana division, fourth in working ranch horse and seventh in English division.
She competed in Level II 16-18-year-old divisions. Her gymkhana horse was D.C. Frosty Bay, and she competed in English, Western and Working Ranch competition on Dun By Whiskey.
In western division on Aug. 28, she took first on the written test, thirds in showmanship and horsemanship and eighth in trail to earn her overall reserve champion status.
To obtain her third in the gymkhana division, Heermann placed second in pole bending, fourth on written test, fourth in barrel race and seventh in flags.
Her fourth-place working ranch horse award was earned Aug. 29 with seconds on written test and in ranch horsemanship and an eighth in ranch trail.
In the Aug. 27 English division, Heermann placed second in English riding control, third on written test and 10th in English show hack to place seventh overall.
Sarah is the daughter of Eldon and Christine Heermann of Holyoke.
She is a member of Challengers 4-H Club and served as the 2009-10 Phillips County Fair Queen.
