HHS softball player Marci Vasa was named National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) High School Player of the Week Monday, Oct. 18.
Despite playing just one game last week, Vasa made sure each at bat counted by going three-for-five with four runs, four RBIs and a home run in a 19-6 win over Yuma that sent the Dragons to this weekend’s state tournament.
For the year, Vasa currently leads Holyoke with a batting average of .429 to go along with 25 runs, 18 RBIs and nine extra base hits. She will enter the state tournament with a .661 slugging percentage and an on-base percentage of .500.
Holyoke, the 10th-seed, will begin its quest for the Class 3A state title on Friday when it meets seventh-seeded Valley at 12:15 p.m. at the Aurora Sports Park in Aurora.
To nominate a player for the award, the coach must enter his or her athlete’s game stats into MaxPreps.com by Sunday evening to be eligible for that week’s award.
The NFCA High School Player of the Week will be announced by the Association on www.nfca.org every Monday during the fall and spring seasons. MaxPreps is a free stat tool that is available to high school coaches across the country and is one of the most recognized and respected high school athletics web sites on the internet.
Coaches that enter their team’s stats on Max Preps will not only be nominating their players for this award, but they will be getting their team’s information out to thousands of high school sports fans, as well as college coaches across the country.
