|Residents urged to be aware of phony calls|

Holyoke Police Chief Phil Biersdorfer urges everyone to be aware of phony calls from the phone number 303-578-5558.
Biersdorfer said he saw a report from Channel 7 where Colorado Attorney General John Suthers is warning Coloradans to be cautious of calls from the number listed above along with other variations of the last three digits.
According to the report, the callers pretend to be sergeants, investigators and other members of law enforcement asking for personal information.
Consumers should always be wary of any call they receive where the caller claims to be from local law enforcement and demands their personal information, Biersdorfer said. “As a general rule, never give out personal identifying or personal financial information on a call you did not initiate,” he added.
Biersdorfer said the calls appear to be based overseas and hiding behind the Colorado area code.
