All parents in the Holyoke area need to save the date for a playdate with Baby Bear Hugs. Each Thursday moms and their children get together for a playgroup from 9:30-11 a.m. at the Methodist Church.
Baby Bear Hugs plays on the fact that this gives kids the opportunity to play and interact with other kids, while parents can take time to talk with other parents.
Playgroup coordinator Kathy Cook said it’s great for the kids to be able to play together while moms can ask questions and learn from each other.
The group, which is open to all ages of children, is very informal and relaxed—great for parents who need a flexible schedule, as they can go as often or as little as what fits into their calendar.
Stephanie Unruh has been taking her 10-month-old son Miles to the playgroup for about six months. She said it’s nice to get out of the house for a while and give Miles some different toys to play with.
Right now only a few attend the group, but during the summer months when they met in the park, Cook said they had as many as 22 kids each week.
Every year the playgroup organizes a field trip for parents and children. They recently went on a fun outing to Cox’s Pond with 11 moms and 19 kids.
Baby Bear Hugs has sponsored this playgroup for about 12-14 years while Cook has been involved for four years.
