Claiming the unique birth date of 1-1-11, Landon Timothy Jaron Scott Robb was born at Melissa Memorial Hospital at 8:40 p.m. on New Year’s Day to win First Baby of the Year honors in Holyoke.

Landon’s mother, Brandy Nichols of Fleming, as well as his two brothers and one sister, look forward to introducing him to his daddy, Shelby Robb, who is serving his country in Iraq. Shelby got to meet his son by Skype on Jan. 2, but that won’t be nearly so good as hugging him when he returns to Colorado for a visit in February.

In a small community such as Holyoke, for the first baby to actually be born on the first day of January doesn’t happen very often. In fact, it had been 26 years since that had occurred.

William Arthur Zwirn Jr. was born Jan. 1, 1984, when his parents, William and Donna Zwirn of Yuma, were visiting Donna’s grandmother, Hazel Gaunt, in Holyoke. The baby made a surprise entry into the world, three weeks ahead of his due date, and there wasn’t time to return to Yuma where Donna was doctoring.

Thirty years ago, on Jan. 1, 1981, Billie Dee Absmeier was born to Jeff and Debbie Absmeier to claim first-baby honors.

This year’s first baby was actually due on 1-11-11, but his mom said it was extra special for him to be born on 1-1-11, sticking with the #1 theme. He had tried to be born prematurely in Denver around Thanksgiving, but they were able to delay that delivery.

At 8:40 p.m. on Jan. 1, 2011, in Holyoke, Colorado, Dr. Dennis Jelden delivered Landon Timothy Jaron Scott Robb at Melissa Memorial Hospital.

Landon weighed in at 7 pounds, 6 ounces and measured 20 inches. He sports a thick head of dark hair and was a docile, happy baby as of the second day of his life.

Brandy, who does in-home care of the disabled, said all four of her children were born at MMH.

Proud siblings of the New Year’s Baby are Brandon Lee Walter Eugene Guhl, age 7; Jeffery Joe Dale Elliott Morrison (Joey), age 5; and Randy Sue Helen Jean Morrison, age 4.

Maternal grandparents are Jeff and Sandy Nichols of Fleming, and great-grandparents are Norma Jean Schumacher of Haxtun and Helen Rogers and Russ Dingafeller of Corry, Pa.

Paternal grandparents are Misty and Scott Robb of Florence, and great-grandparents are Bob and Cheryle Rowe of Florence, Skip Bulhman of Arizona and Brenda Joslin of Tucson, Ariz.
