Two wins over the weekend and a Tuesday loss at Benkelman, Neb. resulted in a 2-1 girls’ jayvee record last week.

After dropping a 51-46 game in Nebraska, the HHS JV squad defeated Wray 37-33 Friday and topped Burlington 45-36 Saturday.

While Dundy County took a slim 11-9 lead at Benkelman, the score was tied 18-all at halftime. The game stayed tight, but the Dragons were on top by two heading into the final stanza.

Dundy County outscored HHS 22-15 in the fourth to pull off the five-point win, 51-46.

Mallory Bennett led the Dragon scoring with 11 points (including seven free throws), followed by Laura Gerk with 10 (including two three-pointers and two for two from the line), Kaylee Groshans nine, Heather Duester six, Marci Vasa five, Flor Varela and Krista Schafer two apiece and Molly Fricke one.

Holyoke JV 37, Wray 33

Holyoke claimed an early lead, 12-5 in the first quarter Friday night, but the Eagles outscored the local girls 13-10 in the second to diminish the Dragon lead to 22-20 at halftime.

Heading into the final quarter, Wray had made it a one-point game, trailing 30-31. Neither team was strong in the final quarter, but the Dragons managed six points to Wray’s three to take the 37-33 win.

A good, balanced scoring effort was seen by the Lady Dragons, with eight girls making it into the scoring column.

Bennett led with 11 points, Gerk nine (with one three-pointer), Fricke five, Shelby Beavers four and Duester, Vasa, Varela and Groshans had two apiece.

Holyoke JV 45, Burlington 36

After a slow start at Burlington Saturday, the HHS jayvee girls earned a 45-36 victory.

The Cougars jumped out to an early 18-10 lead and remained on top, 24-16, at halftime.

The second half was all Holyoke’s, as the girls dominated 15-6 and 14-6 in the final two quarters to take the nine-point win.

Vasa scored 13 points to lead the Lady Dragons, including five for seven from the line. Bennett was close behind with 12 points.

Others making the scoring stats were Varela five, Gerk four, Groshans four, Fricke three, Duester two and Schafer two.
