Colorado State University Veterinary Extension and Arapahoe County’s CSU Extension will host a one-day workshop for Colorado horse owners on equine health, facilities, nutrition and care from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, March 19 at the Arapahoe County Fairgrounds, 25690 E. Quincy Ave., Aurora.
“Your Horse and You—An Equine Field Day” will feature equine experts from the Colorado State University Departments of Animal Science and Clinical Sciences and the Colorado Department of Agriculture.
Presentation topics will include: estimating the annual cost of a new horse; fencing, structures and water tanks; pastures and poisonous plants; basic equine nutrition: range, dry lot or intermittent pasture; dental care, hoof care, vaccinations and parasite control; equine identification; and assessing a horse’s health and need for veterinary care.
The event also will include live horse demonstrations on assessing a horse’s health, preparing and using equine emergency kits, administering oral paste and eye medication and wrapping legs.
