2011 Phillips County Fair Queen Janna Smith recently attended the 2011 National Western Stock Show (NWSS) in Denver.
Smith spent much of her time greeting people as they attended different parts of the stock show while also spreading the word about the 2011 Phillips County Fair.
She kicked off her experience when she rode in the parade as part of the NWSS Local Rodeo Royalty Volunteers. In all, she volunteered eight hours of her time.
The fair queen had the opportunity to meet and speak with numerous county fair queens from all around Colorado as well as Miss Rodeo Colorado and Miss Rodeo America.
Smith, representing the Haxtun FFA Chapter, also showed three of her goats and placed 9th, 10th and 11th in her division. Both the reserve and grand champion came from Smith’s division.

Smith was joined by Nicholas Ortner of Holyoke in the Catch-a-Calf competition in which both were successful in catching a calf.
Ortner and Smith will meet their sponsors and receive their steers in May. After keeping thorough records on the steers, they will attend next year’s stock show to show them.
Ortner is an eighth grader in Holyoke and the son of Tim and Mariane Ortner. Smith is the daughter of John and Denise Smith of Holyoke. She is a senior at Haxtun High School.
