Junior Mark Edmonds picks up his 100th victory
Wrestling solid at the Eaton dual meet tournament Saturday, Feb. 5 has HHS grapplers in fine shape for this weekend’s regional tournament.
“We’re right where we need to be,” said coach Jack Garrison, praising the Dragons for their effort at Eaton.
Just one step from the Big Show state tournament, wrestlers will compete in regionals at NJC in Sterling Friday and Saturday, Feb. 11-12. The top four in each weight division will advance to 2A state championships Feb. 17-19 at the Pepsi Center in Denver.
Saturday was a grand day for Dragon wrestler Mark Edmonds, a junior and returning state champion.
In the last match of the day, he picked up his 100th career win in high school wrestling. This is an outstanding feat, and is especially significant to accomplish this as a junior.
Seven Holyoke wrestlers dualed with Cherry Creek, Glenwood Springs, Hayden, Akron and Silver Creek in Saturday’s tourney at Eaton.
Giving up so many weight classes didn’t boost HHS team scores, but some good individual experience was gained on the mats.
Edmonds, at 125 lbs. and Broc Pelle at 171 both earned five wins on the mat Saturday. Skyler Dittmer was also 5-0 at 135 lbs., but only had two matches, as his weight was open in the other three duals.
Spencer Kotch at 152 lbs. and Jesus Hermosillo at 215 both picked up two wins at Eaton, and Astolfo Rojo won a match at 189 lbs., as well.
