A Monday night, Feb. 9 junior high girls’ basketball outing at Ovid found Holyoke’s 8A and 7A teams winning 28-16 and 16-8, respectively, over Sedgwick County, while the 7B team dropped a 6-18 contest.

Holyoke took a 5-2 first-quarter lead, but really claimed their rank when they outscored the Cougars 12-3 in the second for a 17-5 halftime advantage.

Both teams scored 11 second-half points, giving the Dragons the 28-16 victory.

Erin Vieselmeyer was on fire from behind the arc, hitting four for 12 points to lead the Dragon scoring. Also in the scoring column for HJHS were Molly Brandt six, Lindsay Helgoth four, Elissa Baker four and Chandler Gerk two.

7A action found the Dragons on top 6-0 after one quarter, but the Cougars came back to narrow the lead to three points, 8-5 by halftime.

HJHS dominated 4-1 and 4-2 in the last two periods to claim the 16-8 win.

Alexa Lock managed 12 of the Dragon points, and Maddie King added the other four.

In a two-period 7B ball game, Sedgwick County claimed an 8-4 first-quarter lead and boosted the point-spread to 12 points in taking the 18-6 win.

Zuri Lopez scored four of Holyoke’s points, while Shaylee Krueger added two.
