A private landowner along the South Platte River, southwest of Julesburg, has requested that his property be removed from the Johnson Pond Goose Closure.
To address this request, a public meeting will be held in Julesburg Wednesday, Feb. 23 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Sedgwick County Courthouse Annex building, which is located just southwest of the courthouse.
This meeting may lead to a modification or the removal of the goose closure that has been in effect since its inception in 1975 when it was created to provide an undisturbed resting area for migrating geese. Any modification or change will be in effect for a three-year evaluation period.
The closure’s boundaries are Highway 138 to the north, U.S. Highway 385 on the east, Interstate 76 on the south and Sedgwick County Road 29 on the west.
Waterfowl hunters outside and inside the closure, bird watchers, landowners in the closure, local business owners and the general public are invited to attend.
