Regular b-ball season nears the end PDF Print E-mail

The HHS Lady Dragon basketball team suffered two losses against Caliche on Thursday, Feb. 12 and Fleming on Saturday, Feb. 14.
Coach Arlan Scholl said, “Defensively, we played well in both the Fleming and Caliche basketball games.” He noted in the Caliche game the girls lacked the energy and intensity it takes to win as a team. On the other hand, the energy was quite different against Fleming. “The girls played hard and hustled defensively all over the court,” said Scholl.
He indicated the team will probably take the second or third spot in district seeding depending on a few regular season games still to be played. The team looks forward to competing in the upcoming district tournament which begins on Tuesday, Feb. 24.
The Dragons traveled to Wiggins on Tuesday, Feb. 17 for their last regular season game.

Holyoke 32, Caliche 51
The Lady Dragons struggled to catch the high-scoring Caliche Buffaloes in Thursday’s home basketball game, losing 32-51.
While the Dragons trailed by only three at the end of the first quarter, their two points scored in the second quarter “proved to be the difference in the game,” said Scholl.
HHS played a strong fourth quarter, outscoring Caliche 13-11, but they could not regain the lead Caliche had established in the first half.
Scholl noted they held Caliche’s leading scorer, Alexa Kippes, to 13 points which is well below her regular average.
Maddie Starkebaum led Holyoke’s scoring with 16 points, accounting for half the total points.
In rebounding, Starkebaum and Roth led the team with four rebounds each.
