JV girls split a win and loss against Caliche, Fleming PDF Print E-mail

 Nearing the end of their season, the HHS girls’ JV basketball team split a win and a loss last weekend. They defeated Caliche  21-9 at home on Thursday, Feb. 12 and lost to Fleming 31-36 on Saturday, Feb. 14.
Holyoke 21, Caliche 9
 In a two-period game, the Lady Dragons took the early lead and dominated the scoring against Caliche on Thursday. They led by seven points at the end of the first period and kept up the momentum to claim a 21-9 victory over the Buffaloes.
 Mallory Bennett led the Dragon scoring with eight points. Heather Duester and Molly Fricke followed with four points each, Kaylee Groshans three and Marci Vasa two.
 At the free throw line, Groshans shot 1-2.

Holyoke 31, Fleming 36
 Holyoke suffered a tough loss on Saturday in the 31-36 game against Fleming. With close scores throughout the three-quarter game, the Lady Dragons took the Wildcats to overtime.
 Scoring went back and forth as Holyoke led by one at the end of the first quarter, Fleming led by one at the end of the second and the teams tied at 29 at the final buzzer. Fleming outscored the Dragons in the overtime period with seven points over Holyoke’s two.
 Laura Gerk led Holyoke’s scoring with 12 points including two three-point baskets. Bennett finished with 11 points, Vasa with four and Fricke and Flor Varela each with two.
 In free throws, Vasa shot 2-2 and Gerk shot 2-3.
