Students in Lynn Schneider and John Baumgartner’s third-grade classes have been busy learning about Holyoke during their social studies classes at Holyoke Elementary. Holyoke City Council members visited with the students Monday, March 7 about city government. The young minds were given the opportunity to ask questions and learn about how the council works. A student pictured at left was eager to ask councilman Steve Moore, Mayor Orville Tonsing and councilman David Churchwell a question. Also attending were council members Brian Akey, Kevin Scott and Jessica Cumming.
Schneider said the classes have looked into Holyoke’s history, geography and government and plan to study businesses while learning about economics. They compared Holyoke’s history to life in Holyoke today. They also split up the town into sections and made a map of Holyoke.
