|Music department shares talent in annual Smorgasbord concert|

Band students in grades 5-12, as well as junior high and high school choir members, entertained at the annual Smorgasbord Concert Monday, March 2 in the HHS auditorium.
Pat Wiebers is the director for the fifth grade, sixth grade, junior high and high school bands, as well as the jazz band.
Marcia Dalton directs the junior high and high school choirs, in addition to the select choir.
Shawna Bergstrom served as accompanist for the junior high and high school choirs. Wiebers and Maury Kramer assisted the select choir as well as guitarist Jane Encinias.
A successful smorgasbord fund raiser was reported prior to the concert.
Jazz band opened the music program with Fever, It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing) and Hey Jude featuring trombone soloist Rachel Schneider.
JH concert choir members sang Carriers of the Light; Land of Our Dreams with special group members Shaylee Krueger, Eva Penzing, Camille Elliott, Aracely Peña, Makayla Spitz, Brittney Prottsman, Malena McWilliams, Kelsey Kramer, Xandra Lock, Madison King and Becca Weaver; Rockin’ Gold; and Build Me Up Buttercup featuring the junior high choir girls.
Dragon Slayer, Rockology and Big Rock Candy Mountain were presented by the sixth grade band.
HHS concert choir numbers included Homeward Bound, Happy Together and the HHS ladies ensemble’s Enchanted (Choral Highlights) with choreography by Megan Colglazier and Nora Roth.
Soloist Brittany Durbin sang Place in This World. A ladies ensemble featuring Flor Varela, Jordan Zeiler, Kaylee Groshans, Ella Stewart, Nora Roth and Sarah Heermann performed Sincerely.
JH concert band played Turkey Drumsticks, Korean Hill Song and Music from Pirates of the Caribbean.
Aura Lee, Frere Jacques, When the Saints Go Marching In, Old McDonald Had a Band, Ode to Joy and Hard Rock Blues were fifth grade band selections.
HHS select choir entertained with Blackbird featuring soloists Nora Roth, Sarah Heermann and Ella Stewart and Forever Doo-Wop.
Closing the evening program was the HHS concert band, performing Blue Ridge Saga with trumpet soloist Taylor Haidle and percussion soloist Cody Fricke and The Phantom of the Opera Medley with flute soloist LeAnne McWilliams.
Ticket sellers rewarded
Businesses who donated for prizes for the top ticket sellers were acknowledged by Music Parents Association officers, as were the top ticket salespersons.
Luke Stewart was top ticket seller with 44. A total of 24 students sold 10 or more tickets and were rewarded wth prizes at Monday night’s concert.
Others in the top five sales realm were Megan Vieselmeyer, 20 tickets and $30 donation; Megan Colglazier, 21 tickets; Sierra Anderson, 20 tickets; and Ivette Varela, 20 tickets.
Selling 10-19 smorgasbord tickets were Kanyon Moore, Ashley Humphreys, Jentry Andersen, Jesus Martinez, Dani Brandt, Isidro Juarez, Ramon Favela, Elissa Baker, Mark Edmonds, Mallory Bennett, Dennis Amaya, Shaylee Krueger, Roni Beavers, Trevor Dalton, Amy Krogmeier, Kaylee Ham, Makayla Spitz, Kaetlynne Overton and Austin Vieselmeyer.
