| Boys #1 seed in state tourney |

Holyoke’s boys’ basketball team won a regional championship Saturday afternoon and earned the #1 seed in the 2A State Basketball Tournament. Slated for Massari Fieldhouse at CSU-Pueblo March 12-14, the state tourney’s “Great Eight” boys’ teams are ranked in the following order: Holyoke (23-1), Meeker (23-1), CS School (22-2), Heritage Christian (22-2), Ignacio (22-1), Lutheran Parker (17-7), Sanford (19-5) and Sargent (16-7). Holyoke will first meet Sargent at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 12. Other first-round games will feature Heritage Christian vs. Ignacio at 8:45 a.m., CS School vs. Lutheran Parker at 7 p.m. and Meeker vs. Sanford at 11:45 a.m. If Holyoke wins Thursday, the Dragons will advance to the semifinals Friday, March 13 at 4 p.m. The boys’ championship game is set for 5:15 Saturday, March 14, while the third-place game is at 2 p.m. A complete bracket of the 2A boys’ state tournament can be found on page 8 of this week’s Enterprise. Wray Eagles on top of 2A girls’ bracket Sporting a 23-1 record, the Wray Eagles go in as the #1 team in the girls’ 2A state tournament this weekend. The Lower Platte Activities Association (LPAA) is well-represented, with Akron girls (14-10) meeting Wray in the first round at 5:30 p.m. As the #7 seed, Merino (14-9) will play #2 Paonia (23-1) at 8:30 p.m. Thursday. Other first-round girls’ games include #4 Meeker (18-6) vs. #5 Burlington (17-6) at 10:15 a.m. and #3 Sanford (19-5) vs. #6 Hayden (21-3) at 1:15 p.m. |
