Adams earns State FFA Degree PDF Print E-mail

2011 HHS graduate Patricia Adams received her State FFA Degree during the 83rd Annual State FFA Convention June 1-3 in Alamosa.

Adams finished her high school career with the organization’s highest state achievement. She said she hopes to achieve her American Degree next which is the organization’s highest achievement as an FFA member.

Adams also said she hopes to run for a state officer position at next year’s convention.

In order to qualify for the state degree, FFA members must have earned their Greenhand and Chapter Degrees, earned and productively invested over $2,500 in their SAE (Supervised Agricultural Experience), been involved in more than seven FFA activities above the chapter level, maintain a C or better grade point average and fill out an extensive application.

Adams’ SAE included her specialty animal goat operation. She has shown and sold Boer goats as part of her SAE during high school. She has also been very involved with the stock show and Phillips County Fair. She attended the National FFA Convention as a junior.

Adams served as the chapter reporter her sophomore and junior years and vice president her senior year.

She will attend Northeastern Junior College in Sterling in the fall and major in veterinary science and minor in ag education. The 2011 HHS graduate is the daughter of Allen and Lynda Adams.

Seven represent Holyoke at state convention

Seven HHS students traveled to the convention to represent Holyoke’s FFA Chapter.

Along with Adams receiving her State Degree, sophomore Trae McCallum was presented an award for participating in the heifer wrangle contest.

Those attending the state convention were Adams, McCallum, Mariah Struckmeyer, Caity Kramer, Kelsey Kramer, Makayla Spitz and Perry Garrett. Sponsors were Troy, Carla and Wilson Mayfield.

The group attended FFA workshops and general sessions. Struckmeyer and Spitz served as Holyoke’s delegates and their duties included attending business meetings.
