Gohl retires after 38 years with John Deere PDF Print E-mail
Written by Holyoke Enterprise
John Deere was the theme when 38-year J.D. employee Harlan Gohl opened his retirement farewell gifts at an open house Friday afternoon, March 6 at MV Equipment in Holyoke.
Starting his employment for two years in Wauneta, Neb., Gohl has worked at the local John Deere dealership as a service technician for 36 years, since 1973.
The turnout at Friday’s farewell celebration was a fine tribute to the service Gohl has contributed. He and his wife Pam, who is leaving Bank of the West after 18 years, will be missed in Holyoke.
Gohl’s retirement gifts included a John Deere wooden bench with a plaque reading “Harlan Gohl, 38 years of service to John Deere and MV Equipment, August 1971-March 2009. We don’t control the cards we get dealt in life, but we do get to control how we play the cards.” With that, Gohl opened a deck of cards. He also received a mantle clock, tool box, jackets and a plaque noting 40 hours paid vacation, along with many fond wishes of good luck.
The Gohls are moving this week to Strafford, Mo., where they will be close to their daughter Kim Retchloff and her husband Barry, along with grandchildren Dexten and Tiya. They’ll return to Colorado, however, to visit Denver children Michael and Matt and his wife Keely and their daughter Elise.
