|County to coordinate grasshopper spraying|
|Written by Holyoke Enterprise|
Colorado Department of Agriculture has predicted a high grasshopper hatch in Phillips County in 2011, and landowners in southeast Phillips County have already been calling the County Administration Office verifying a big hatch.
Phillips County is asking landowners who wish to control the grasshopper count on their property to call 970-854-3778 to be added to a spraying list.
To be included, landowners need to supply their name, general location of the property and approximate acreage needing treatment (50 percent of acreage will actually be sprayed). The program is being coordinated by Phillips County, but all costs will be paid by each participating landowner.
Colorado Department of Agriculture has preliminary plans to release limited funding to assist in grasshopper control for eastern Colorado, but no final decision has been made. If money becomes available, there may be limited cost sharing for those who have sprayed previous to the program announcement.
Anyone adding their name to the group spraying list will be contacted with exact details before any spraying will take place.
