Holyoke’s Gold Babe Ruth team finished in the runner-up position at the league tournament held June 21-25 in Oshkosh, Neb.
With weather halting tournament play Saturday, June 25. Holyoke and Haxtun squared off in Haxtun for the title Saturday, June 26. The Bulldogs put away the Dragons after five innings by a score of 11-1 to claim the top prize.
Holyoke entered as the No. 3 seed and beat Sedgwick County (No. 2) to advance to the championship game.
Holyoke’s Green PeeWee team (No. 4) finished in third place after beating Oshkosh (No. 2) 5-3 on Saturday.
Holyoke Green PeeWee and Gold PeeWee (No. 5) faced off in the first round with the Green team prevailing 8-7. The Green squad went on to fall to Sedgwick County (No. 1) 0-8 in the semifinals. Holyoke Gold faced Chappell (No. 6) for fifth place and lost 0-14.
Holyoke Gold Little League (No. 1) finished in fourth place after falling 3-4 to Sedgwick County (No. 3) in the third-place game. The Dragons received a bye in the first round and then fell 1-12 to Haxtun (No. 4) in the semifinals. The Bulldogs were eventual Little League champions.
