Written by Holyoke Enterprise

The shortage of licensed family child care providers has many parents in northeast Colorado scrambling to find child care for their children. In many communities, this shortage of child care puts parents in the position of either leaving their children in child care of questionable quality or losing their jobs.

For anyone who has ever thought about becoming a licensed family child care provider, now is a good time to start. Registration is now being accepted for the required 15-hour pre-licensing class, “There’s No Place Like Home.” This class is being held Friday and Saturday, July 8-9 by Northeast Colorado Child Care Resource and Referral.

Colorado licensing of family child care providers is a process that ensures that certain standards for the health and safety of children are being followed. While this process can be challenging, it has become much easier with Northeast Colorado Child Care Resource and Referral’s assistance. They provide information, guidance and support to potential family child care providers to help them with every aspect of the licensing process.

Licensing packets, training information, technical assistance and much more is provided to potential family child care providers in nine counties in northeast Colorado, including those in Cheyenne, Kiowa, Kit Carson, Lincoln, Logan, Phillips, Sedgwick, Washington and Yuma counties.

Being a licensed family child care provider is a profession with many possibilities. This profession allows parents and grandparents the opportunity to make a good income for their family while being home with their own children or grandchildren.

Anyone with questions about becoming a licensed family child care provider or who would like to register for the upcoming pre-licensing class, contact Sheila or Claudia at Northeast Colorado Child Care Resource and Referral at the Rural Communities Resource Center in Yuma at 970-848-3867 or toll-free at 1-877-338-2273.

Northeast Colorado Child Care Resource and Referral is a Qualistar Colorado Partner receiving funding through CDHS and is a program of the Rural Communities Resource Center. Additional funding is received from the Lincoln County Department of Human Services and the Yuma County Department of Human Services.
