Guys and Dolls Square Dance Club graduated five new enthusiastic dancers on Sunday, March 8 at the Haxtun Community Center. The new graduates are Paul and Kathy Wernsman, Chuck and Joan Dvorak and Makenzie Long, all from Haxtun. Patricia Klinzman, who would have graduated, was unable to attend.
As part of the graduation ceremony, presidents Winston and Mary Ann Ham gave the welcome, introduced the new graduates and led them on the imaginary journey to the four corners of the square. They were then presented with their diplomas by teacher Miller Kelly of Sterling. The presidents gave them their badgets and graduation packets.
Graduates then presented Miller and his wife Leona with an appreciation gift for traveling to Haxtun every week for five months to give them lessons. The experienced dancers, who are called angels, were also recognized for being there each week to aid the graduates in the learning process.
An evening of fun, food, fellowship and dancing was enjoyed by 70 dancers and guests. They also enjoyed two vocal solos by Rachelle Davis and sang “Happy Birthday” to new graduate Joan Dvorak, who was celebrating her birthday that day. Cake, cupcakes and homemade ice cream concluded the evening.
