HHS cancels Sat. tourney PDF Print E-mail

Due to participation of teams and level of competition, the Larry Stroh Duals Wrestling Tournament in Holyoke scheduled for this Saturday, Dec. 10, has been canceled.

Several home duals will be scheduled instead, and one will be designated to the memory of HHS coach Larry Stroh, said coach Jack Garrison.

Holyoke will host Merino in dual action Thursday, Feb. 2, and will also dual with Wray and hopefully Fleming during the 2011-12 season, said athletic director Kimberlee Bennett.

Meanwhile, this weekend, the whole Dragon team, including junior varsity and varsity wrestlers, will be competing at Banner County High School in Harrisburg, Neb.

Concern was voiced for eliminating what had become known as the Larry Stroh Tournament after the tragic death of coach Stroh in 2006. But one of the home duals will definitely be dedicated to his memory.

Stroh family members were contacted and agreed to the cancellation of the tourney in December.

The Larry Stroh Outstanding Wrestler award will still be presented at the end of the season.
