Dragons take down Eagles PDF Print E-mail

Following the snow storm that blew through the area and canceled school Friday, Feb. 3, the Dragons weren’t real sure if they would be playing basketball Saturday afternoon Feb. 4 or not.

Coach Scott Dille said the team didn’t find out until around 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning that the game was going to happen. However, they were very hopeful Friday night as both the Holyoke and Wray administrations wanted to play if at all possible.

Once the superintendents of Holyoke and Wray decided the roads were good enough for travel, it was game on Saturday in Holyoke. When all was said and done, Holyoke earned a nice 56-42 win over the Eagles.

Friday night, the boys’ basketball team was scheduled to host Burlington but the game was postponed due to the snow storm that dropped large amounts of snow on the ground making travel hard.

The game is scheduled to be made up Monday night, Feb. 13 in Holyoke.

Dille felt the messed up schedule may have played a factor in the slow start the Dragons had Saturday against Wray.

The Eagles held a 12-6 advantage after the opening quarter. That lead didn’t last long however as the Dragons stormed back and hung 21 on the board while holding the Eagles to just four points.

Dille felt the last few minutes of the first and the entire second quarter was about as well as the team has played in a while.

The Eagles added 20 third-quarter points while Holyoke scored 17.

Dille said he was proud of the bench play Saturday night. He said everyone that entered the game did exactly what they needed to do to help the team to victory.

Scoring slowed in the final quarter with the Dragons earning 12 points to Wray’s six.

Reid Baumgartner led the team with 19 points. Logan Tharp was the only other Dragon in double digits with 13.
