Seven students from Holyoke High School attended the State Service Learning Conference in Colorado Springs Feb. 21-23.
Following many months of negotiations, a biodiesel plant is coming to Grant, Neb. after the City of Grant sold the former Jack’s Bean plant east of town to AHE Land LLC, dba Sunrise Biodiesel.
Stephen Brethauer, LCSW, will be presenting a free training seminar, “Grief, Loss and Our Kids,” to give adults ideas of how to help children through rough times they experience, while keeping with the routine of everyday living.

The Jack’s Bean Company corporate office, which was formerly located in Fort Morgan, opened in Holyoke March 2 at 107 W. Denver in the office that formerly housed Pandora’s.
Gerald Miller is the new owner of Lucky’s Liquors in Holyoke, having purchased the business from Orville and Roberta Tonsing.
An annual staff recognition program will be implemented in Holyoke School District Re-1J for Outstanding Elementary Educator, Outstanding Secondary Educator, Outstanding Classified Staff and Outstanding Achievement.
Forty Years Ago
Mrs. L.X. Wernet has leased the Rainbow Cafe to Roberta Reagan, who took over management March 6. The cafe will operate under the name of Reagan’s Rainbow.
A high of 81 degrees was recorded last week, with high winds causing considerable blowing of topsoil and some damage to wheat.
According to the latest figures released, Holyoke’s population has increased from 1,555 in 1960 to 1,640 in 1971.

About 225 4-H’ers and 40 leaders in Phillips County are observing National 4-H Club Week March 3-10.
The congregation of the Holyoke Methodist Church will hold dedication services Sunday, March 25. The new building can now be dedicated because it has been paid for in full. Consecration services were held March 12, 1961.
