|Wauneta Community Center annual meeting is March 18|

Wauneta Community Center annual meeting will be March 18 at 2 p.m. The main topic of discussion will be moving the building east on its current lot.
Concern has been presented that the Community Building impedes visibility from the fire hall hence the discussion of building removal from its current location.
The building was built in 1926 and has an abundant amount of history as a community landmark. With this in mind, a committee was formed two years ago to communicate with the Office of Archaeology and Preservation of Colorado, whom agreed that the community center has “a significant link to the community’s social history.”
The Historic Preservation office states that the building can be moved without hurting the historical integrity of the building; it just must maintain the same orientation.
As a result of the findings, the Wauneta Community Board has secured bids for concrete and moving the building that would cap out at $26,000. Roughly half is for concrete, which is a firm bid. The other half is for the moving of the building. This bid can be lowered by the amount of prep work and equipment the community is willing to donate. Those with knowledge of moving buildings are urged to contact a board member. This would greatly reduce the expenses needed.
The board is asking for preliminary pledges for this project before the annual meeting. This will allow the meeting to be conducted in a more educated fashion.

If funding is not attainable, the building may be up for auction to be removed from the site. Anyone that has questions or would like more information, contact a board member. The board consists of Brian Freeman, Buoy, Becky Lenz, Becky Combs and John Archer.
