Holyoke Dragons return strong lineup to the baseball diamond PDF Print E-mail
Written by Chris Lee

After last year, Holyoke baseball coach Kyle Bules doesn’t know what to think about the upcoming year.

A very strong lineup returns after Holyoke graduated two seniors. There are 24 on this year’s team.

The 2011 squad had a fantastic year but it abruptly ended in the district tournament. They were trying to defend their 2010 district championship and entered as the No. 1 seed. Holyoke was riding a 14-4 season record into the tournament before being upset by Akron.

“We need to finish this year,” the coach said. He noted they played very well during the regular season but didn’t when it counted the most—tournament time.

The Dragons began this season with two nice victories Saturday, March 10 in Haxtun. Click here to read about the season opener. They are scheduled to open the home portion of their schedule Saturday, March 17 against Sedgwick County. The Dragons will again look for another great year but hope to advance a little further into the post season.

The district tournament will be played in Holyoke Friday-Saturday, May 4-5.

Bules begins his fifth year as the head coach of the Dragons. Marcus Kammer and Brett Gerk return to assist the head coach. The roster returns a group with a lot of experience.

Leading the way will be 10 returning letterwinners. They include seniors Reid Baumgartner and Austin Killin; juniors Brett Cumming, Jaydin Goldenstein, Jesus Hermosillo, Deyten Klein, Alfredo Santos and Logan Zeiler; and sophomores Trevor Dalton and Logan Tharp.

Others on the team are seniors Chris Bieber and Matt Wittman; juniors Cesar Hinostroza, Spencer Kotch and Harry Paulin; sophomores Wyatt Bishop, Ryan Krogmeier, Ivan Millan, Zach Roll and Tanner Smith; and freshmen Dylan Kotch, Jesus Martinez, Nathan Miles and Wyatt Powell. Student managers for the Dragons are Kaide Bules and Taylor Mayden.
