|Laura Gerk signs with NJC to play softball next year|

HHS senior Laura Gerk has signed a letter of intent to play softball for the Northeastern Junior College Plainswomen next year. Gerk is pictured in center front with her parents, Hollie and Casey Gerk. In back, from left, are HHS softball coach Ashley Clayton and Principal Susan Ortner. Other coaches who have been part of Gerk’s softball career are Ron Lock, Steven Ortner, Mike Meusborn, Brett Gerk and Brittany Krueger.
Gerk lettered all four years as an HHS softball player, earned All Conference Honorable Mention honors her sophomore year, All Conference and All State honors her senior year and also was named to the all tournament team in the Burlington tourney her senior year. The Dragons qualified for state in Gerk’s junior and senior years. She played second base for the Dragons her freshman year and shortstop for the past three years. She looks forward to the NJC season which includes a fall scrimmage season and spring competitive season.
A stand-out athlete at HHS, Gerk also lettered four years in girls’ basketball and played golf for two years, lettering one year. —Enterprise photo
