Written by Holyoke Enterprise

Phillips County Courthouse was the home to several cars, trucks and motorcycles as 36 combined vehicles registered for the 12th annual Dandelion Daze car show Saturday, June 16, sponsored by Holyoke Chamber of Commerce.

Temperatures were a bit on the warm side but people managed to find shade under the trees to enjoy the day.

Car owners showed off their vehicles Saturday at the Show and Shine. Top Gun (Rodders’ Choice) honor was awarded to Ron Higgins for his 1956 F100. Troy Brown earned the People’s Choice award for his 1979 Chevrolet Camaro.

The top 15 cars were also recognized Saturday with a plaque. They include, in no particular order:

Chris Skipworth, 1969 Firebird; Geoffrey Mattson, 1968 Pontiac GTO; Rod Aaquesen, 1936 Ford S Widow; Charles Harvey, 1949 Plymouth.

Randy Lofquest, 1968 C-10; Matt Meusborn, 1956 Chevy; Ed Race, 1961 Ford Thunderbird; Bob DeBoer, 1934 Plymouth and 1970 GTX; Brent Reichman, 1966 Galaxy.

Vern Alberts, 1969 GMC; Eugene Reinke, 1958 Buick; Elon Nelson, 1965 Ford Mustang; Kalen McDonald, 1969 Nova; and Randy McDonald, 1969 Malibu.

Twenty-eight vendors were set up to give people a variety of goods to choose from. Phillips County Museum was also open and reported a fantastic turnout. On display were the historic Hupmobile and Model T cars.

The Chamber provided a sloppy joe lunch where 75 people were served. This number was down from last year, most likely due to the added vendors selling food.

Kids had fun on the Velcro wall and bounce house as well as other games.

There was also a bike safety course for kids to try out. Holyoke Police Department registered 19 bikes with a serial number and handed out 19 helmets to those who didn’t have one or wanted to replace one for a different size. HPD also inspected the bikes for safety issues.

To round out the entertainment, RC gas powered car races were held for enthusiasts.

There were also 12 citywide garage sales held throughout town Saturday.

Car owners closed out the day with a cruise down Interocean Avenue in the Grease Lightning Parade.

Perfect day for annual Dandelion Daze

Twenty-eight booths and vendors were scattered around the Phillips County Courthouse lawn Saturday, June 16 during the annual Dandelion Daze car show. Warm temperatures greeted those as they visited vendors, relaxed with friends and enjoyed the numerous vehicles.
