Alondra Zapata of Holyoke couldn’t remember the last time she had
a normal haircut, but that all changed Friday, June 15 when she
chopped 10 inches of hair off to donate to Locks of Love. This was
the first time the 10-year-old has donated to the organization. She
said since the weather is heating up outside, it was a good time to
lose some hair to help her keep cool. She is the daughter of Alma
Rodriguez and Gamaliel Zapata.       —Enterprise photo

Locks of Love is a public nonprofit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 18 who are suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis.

The organization meets a unique need for children by using donated hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics. The hairpieces they provide help restore children’s self-esteem and confidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers.
