A proposal to phase out the weighted grading scale at HHS was presented at the June 19 school board meeting by soon-to-be Holyoke JR/SR High principal Susan Ortner. Board action on the proposal is set for the July 17 meeting.
A bolt of lightning ignited an uncut wheat field June 21, burning approximately 80 acres in Riley and DeeAnn Dubbert’s field northeast of Holyoke.

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Amherst is the recipient of a $25,000 grant from the State Historical Fund of the Colorado Historical Society to restore their historic stained-glass windows.

Phillips County Arts Council is the new name of the organization formerly called Holyoke Community Arts Council.

The fate of the Trailways bus line servicing Holyoke remains undecided as Greyhound Lines’ bid to purchase the Trailways line hinges upon approval from the Interstate Commerce Commission.
Friends of the Library in Holyoke is sponsoring their second annual “Own Your Own Art Show” Sunday, July 19. There will be no judging, as the special event will be a show and sale only.

The Brandon Bombers, a new semipro baseball team, has been formed, and playing with the team from Holyoke are Robert Trumper and Brent Hofmeister.
Last Sunday night, four cars and a pickup pulling a horse trailer were involved in a pile-up six miles west of Holyoke on Highway 6. The accident was primarily caused by dirt blowing across the highway. Occupants of the vehicles received bruises and lacerations but reported nothing serious.

The Colorado Banking Board has announced that it will appeal to the State Supreme Court the recent district court decision approving a second bank in Holyoke.
A Plymouth station wagon owned by Everett McConnell of Haxtun meandered into Jumbo Reservoir on Sunday afternoon, June 17, from the parking space at the west end of the reservoir. The auto has an overdrive and had been parked in gear and went over a drop-off and into the water.
