4th of July fun planned
Independence Day activities kick off Wednesday, July 4 at 1 p.m. with the Holyoke Volunteer Fire Department’s Family Fun Day at Homesteaders Park. Races at Phillips County Raceway begin at 5 p.m. Fireworks at dusk at City Park will finish the day.
Sweetest Baby/Toddler Contest under way
The annual Sweetest Baby/Toddler Contest, sponsored by Baby Bear Hugs, is going on now. Vote for your favorite photos by placing money in jars at Holyoke Credit Union. During fair week, the display will be moved to the fairgrounds.
Athletic physicals coming up
Physicals for JR/SR High athletes will be held at Family Practice Clinic in July. For high schoolers, boys are scheduled for Tuesday, July 10, and girls are on Thursday, July 12. Junior high girls can go Monday, July 23, and junior high boys are set for Tuesday, July 24. All physicals will be held from 5-6:30 p.m.
These are the only times physicals will be offered at a reduced price. Forms to be completed and signed by parents and students have been mailed. Those with schedule conflicts may attend any of the four nights.
HVFD called two times
Holyoke Volunteer Fire Department was called two times Thursday, June 28. The first call came at 10:25 a.m. when crews were summoned to a semi truck that rolled onto its side on Highway 6 just across the state line into Nebraska. HVFD helped with traffic control while EMS was on scene.
A mutual aid call from Haxtun came in at 8:10 p.m. HVFD could not locate a fire and returned back to Holyoke.
